For a vulnerable child, school can be the difference between a hard life and a hopeful one. That’s why education for orphans in Kenya sits at the heart of what UtuRise Foundation does. We believe learning should never be the thing that holds a child back.
Why education for orphans in Kenya matters
When a child loses a parent, school often becomes a casualty. Fees go unpaid. Supplies run out. Eventually, some children drop out entirely.
The consequences last for years. Without education, a child’s options shrink dramatically. However, with steady support, that same child can finish school, gain skills, and step into independence.
The barriers children face
Several obstacles keep orphaned children out of the classroom:
- School fees that families simply cannot cover
- Missing supplies like books, pens, and uniforms
- Instability at home, which makes consistent attendance hard
- A lack of encouragement from adults who believe in them
Each barrier is real. Yet each one can be removed with the right support at the right time.
How UtuRise keeps children learning
Our role is to help children stay in school and stay encouraged. During visits, we provide stationery and school needs. Where possible, we also help with school fees — as we did during our charity event with Grace Alliance Ministry.
Just as importantly, we show up. We spend time with the children, celebrate their progress, and remind them that someone is cheering them on. Because of this, education for orphans in Kenya becomes not just possible, but expected.
The long-term goal
We’re not aiming for a single good term. Instead, we walk with each child through their whole journey — from the children’s home, through school, and into a future they build for themselves.
That’s the long walk, and education is one of its most important steps.
